I had spent the day touring the Chateau, seeing the sights of Bordeaux and we were all gathered in at the kitchen fireplace eating gourmet bites and sipping wine. I was in that happy place of wine lover and foodie ecstasy that made me pinch myself to make certain I wasn't dreaming!

That afternoon I tasted the 2011 vintage of the Entre-Deux-Mers that had been winning gold medals for the past decade. I had fallen in love. An intricate white Bordeaux whose flavors grew and opened to provide an entire range of fruit, citrus and flower flavors from the first sip to the last. It was one that I would raise my glass to time and time again!

The task at hand was to try the full range of wines produced at the Doublet Family Vineyards. Rough life I know, but someone has to do it! I will give you my interpretations of my two absolute favorites...

The NUMBER ONE:

One sip of the Chateau Saint Ange Bordeaux and you taste an amazing explosion dance around your tastebuds. There truly is no other way to describe it. In my study of wines, I have had the pleasure of drinking many, many high priced bottles of wine (over $100). This bottle of wine topped anything that has passed over my lips. I have a case of it waiting for me in France to make the journey back to the States with me. If you can get your hands on it, drink a bottle and save a bottle. It is one of the best kept secrets of all Bordeaux wines.

The NUMBER TWO:

Chateau Vignol Louisiane. A fitting bottle of wine for me to love as a few ancestors of mine made the journey from France to settle in Louisiana before the French sold the property to the United States. It's also a spicy and bold bottle of wine that fits my personality and wine palette.

The Famille Doublet Vineyard is a small independent winegrower. You won't find their wines in the big box retailers, so go to the smaller boutique shops and ask for them. It's an old world wine crafted with care. I have been spoiled with such great French and Spanish varieties while living in Europe. Ohhhh, I can't wait to return!
